Policy & Field Coordinator
Omar serves as Poverty Action’s Policy and Field Coordinator. In this role, he develops and implements legislative policy priorities for Poverty Action, organizing our broad network of coalitions, providing educational outreach on policy priorities and connecting members to legislative officials.
Previously, Omar served as Poverty Action’s Community Organizer supporting their annual advocacy day in Olympia, leading the Vote for a Change campaign, and supporting our volunteers and interns across our campaigns. Omar’s commitment to ending poverty arises out of being undocumented, unapologetic, and unafraid. In his professional work, Omar has served as community engagement liaison for a Washington nonprofit supporting people in prison, 5 years working as a case manager supporting chronically homeless individuals in Los Angeles, and over a decade of experience working in customer service and retail. Personally, he has organized around issues related to environmental justice, immigration reform, and affordable housing in Los Angeles and Seattle.
Outside of work he enjoys reading science fiction, hiking, knitting, and working to finish all his shows on his to-watch list. He holds degrees in Social Work from the University of Washington and the California State University, Los Angeles.
