As the Communications Coordinator, Sidney manages Poverty Action’s political and advocacy-focused communications to support campaign goals and the organization’s long-term goal of unearthing the systemic roots of poverty. She works to uplift community voices and change the narrative of what living in poverty is like across Washington state through storytelling, strategic communications, and media.
Prior to joining Poverty Action, Sidney worked for Solid Ground as an advocate for families experiencing deep poverty. She has also worked with youth and young adults to push for policy change at the state level. Sidney approaches social service and advocacy work with a full frame view by taking time to build relationships and valuing the process as much as the outcome.
Sidney is originally from Baltimore, Maryland and moved to the Seattle area in 2018. She enjoys exploring the beauty of the Pacific Northwest as well as her creative interests like sewing and drawing. Sidney volunteers as a Legislative District Lead for the Washington Low Income Housing Alliance and holds an MSW from the University of Maryland, Baltimore.
