Our Vision
At Statewide Poverty Action Network, we are fighting for a world where everyone can put food on the table, pay for our everyday needs, and pursue our goals in life – no matter who we are or where we come from. We work to transform the systems that are stacked against us into systems that treat us fairly. We believe the only way to do that is to center the voices of people impacted by poverty in the decision-making process.
The pathway out of poverty should be clear and easy to navigate, but instead it is overgrown, confusing, and insufficient to meet people’s needs along the way. This year, we are giving the legislature a map for how to clear the path. We must invest in removing obstacles, building bridges, and making the pathway out of poverty in Washington state easy to navigate.
2025 Policy Priorities
Our state has many pathways intended to lead out of poverty, but many of them have fallen into disrepair due to lack of investment in their maintenance. The state has even added obstacles to dissuade families from accessing resources they need and qualify for. Using our state’s abundant resources, we must invest in clearing the pathway out of poverty, meeting people’s basic needs, and bolstering consumer protections.
Conclusion
When we tap our state’s plentiful resources, we have abundant supplies to maintain our state’s pathways out of poverty. When families aren’t slowed down by insufficient cash grant amounts, benefits cliffs, and obstacles to access, they can navigate a pathway to financial stability. When we take direction from those walking the pathway out of poverty, we can invest in the most effective solutions. When we clear the pathway, we can move forward towards a poverty-free future, where everyone can meet their basic needs.
