Join the Fight for Fair Lending!

Have you taken out a payday loan? Did it hurt more than it helped? You are not alone! Last year consumers in Washington paid $173 million in fees to payday lenders. A typical payday loan has an annual interest rate around 400%. High interest rates coupled with short payback times and high fees trap people into cycles of debt.

16 other states have laws to help protect payday borrowers. Isn't it time for Washington to demand fair and reasonable consumer protections on payday loans?

Share Your Story

The Alliance to Prevent Predatory Lending (APPL) is collecting stories of people impacted by payday lenders to educate the public and lawmakers about the real life financial challenges people face in Washington. If you have used a payday loan share your story to help fight for fair lending. For more information about APPL contact Danielle at: Danielle@noloansharks.org or 1-866-789-7726.

Legislative Session Wrap-up

This was a great year for Washington families and homeowners. We saw victories in home mortgage regulations that will help Washingtonians avoid foreclosure.

Victory! Working Families Credit will assist 350,000 low-income families

The Working Families Credit (ESSB 6809), which will provide tax relief to lower income working families in Washington, is a state version of the successful poverty-fighting program, the federal Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC). This bill was signed by the Governor on April 1st and is a great victory for working families in every legislative district across the state. Read the press release and this great op-ed by Senator Lisa Brown for more information on the Working Families Credit.
